Another year, another crop of superstar artists with new efforts to debut. Pop masters like Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and Madonna have new material to issue, as to veteran rockers like U2, Green Day and Foo Fighters. Jay-Z and Kanye are apparently teaming up and Lil Wayne will have his next "Carter" available. 1. Lady Gaga, "Born This Way" (TBA)It seems like an eternity since Lady Gaga released her first album "The Fame," and though "The Fame Monster" tided many fans over, "Born This Way" will be her true sophomore set and return. Gaga was busy on her Monster Ball world tour, which would explain some of the delay. But the singer/songwriter/performer promised a first single by February and the album to appear shortly thereafter.
She said it's "a marriage of electronic music with major, epic, dare I even say, metal or rock 'n' roll, pop, anthemic style melodies with really sledge-hammering dance beats." Look for a very special message from Gaga at midnight on NYE.
2. Jay-Z and Kanye West, "That's My Throne" (TBD)Kanye West worked with Jay-Z on a few tracks for his "Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" in 2010, and during that time, the hip-hop superstars worked on songs even beyond those. Five, to be precise, and West has already said that he plans on recording more with Hov (in the South of France, no less) for a full-length set. They
already put out the track "That's My Bitch" featuring La Roux in November.
3. Britney Spears - TBA (March)Britney Spears gave her fans a present for
her birthday
earlier this month: she confirmed that her next set would come out in March. Frequent collaborator Dr. Luke has already said he'll be helping on the as-yet-untitled set. Her manager had mentioned before he expected to drop the first single by Christmas but, hey... there's always the new year.
4. Madonna - TBD"Its official! I need to move. I need to sweat. I need to make new music! Music I can dance to. I'm on the look out for the maddest, sickest, most bad ass people to collaborate with. I'm just saying..."
Those are the words of Madonna herself, posted to Facebook and on Twitter just this month.
HitFix confirmed already that one of those "bad ass" collaborators won't be Brendan O'Brien. Who else should she bring on board?
5. Foo Fighters - TBA
After a short hiatus, the Dave Grohl and Co. are reuniting -- with some former Nirvana cohorts, as well. Butch Vig ("Nevermind") is on tap to produce the set while Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic. The group has a handful of summer music festival dates slated. No word on when to expect the release, but Gohl told BBC 1 that they're recording it garage style, with not a lot of automation. Raw.
6. Coldplay, TBD
Brian Eno has been working with Coldplay on and off all year and -- although frontman Chris Martin had wished a new effort would be out by the end of 2010 -- the band hadn't actually finished any songs by September. They already have four music festival tour dates on the books and put out a new track "Christmas Lights" in time for the holidays this year. Signs point to a late spring or summer effort.
7. Beastie Boys, "Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2" (Spring 2011)The Beasties had to scrap a lot of touring and recording plans in 2009 when Adam "MCA" Yauch was diagnosed with cancer. Seems things are back on track, though, as they formally announced the release of "Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2," which was originally supposed to be "Pt. 1" but... well,

8. Green Day, "Awesome as F*ck" (March 15, import)Green Day has long hinted at releasing a live effort, and the swirling rumors around "Awesome as F*ck" seem to help confirm a 2011 release. And by rumors, we mean
a page for the set on Amazon U.K. with a March 15 release date. Billie Joe Armstrong will be on Broadway for the stage adaptation of "American Idiot" for January and February, but all this past summer while touring, the band has been preparing for the set. "We've been recording our live shows since the beginning of tour. Possible live album coming," they Tweeted in August.
9. Lil Wayne, "Tha Carter IV" (TBD)Lil Wayne had one hell of a 2010, and he was in jail for most of it. People were swearing that "Tha Carter IV" would drop the day Weezy left the clink, but instead the rapper started in on new recordings with new producers, for a 2011 release instead. The single "6'7"" -- as heard
here -- precedes.
10. U2, "Songs of Ascent" (TBD)Bono and The Edge have been busy with the whole "Spider-Man" musical debacle, and the frontman battled a back injury all of this summer. But "Songs of Ascent" has actually been in the works way before all that, at the beginning of this year. No word, though, if "Ascent" has been re-worked as a project with Danger Mouse, as
the band explained in October, or if those are two separate albums. Or if "Ascent" has been dropped in favor of a will.i.am collabo. U2's putting
something out, OK? They'll be tackling the touring circuit in the U.S. as well, after postponing dates last summer.
